I Love Being a Girl Virtual Auction, hosted by Project Ed Bear

Dear Project Ed Bear supporters,

We’ve postponed our Twisted Tiffany event until 2022, where it will be held at Firestone Country Club. All vendors and attendees that paid for their space or tickets in 2020, will be able to attend at no cost.

2020, a year like no other

Thank you for joining us as we comfort children facing cancer in Northeast Ohio!

This year, COVID challenged our operations—but because of your support, we were able to adjust our practices to serve the children of this community like never before.

Here are a few of our favorite moments In 2020.

Project Ed Bear:

  • Continued to deliver bears to children when they first arrive at Akron Children’s Hospital. (And yes, when we donate them, the bears go into a two-week quarantine period!)

  • Hand-delivered 100 Easter bags and 35 large Easter baskets for children and siblings facing cancer.

  • Shifted from the normal “Camp Ed Bear” to donating 40 camp boxes (a $200+ value to each child!) with camp crafts and activities to any of the children that were signed up for camp that wanted it.

  • Hand-delivered Halloween bags for children and siblings

  • Made sure our Christmas donations were stronger than ever! We were proud to:

  • Gifted 100 $100 gift cards to our Ed Bear recipients

  • Delivered cookie trays to families

  • Adopted nine families by collecting toys and gifts

  • Shifted from the normal Gala Auction, to a virtual action, raising necessary funds with our largest event of the year.

Project Ed Bear is, and will continue to be, a 100% volunteer run nonprofit organization. When you support our children, please know, you’re supporting the kindest and bravest souls we’ve ever met. Every dollar you donate makes a difference to our children, and we all so very grateful for you!

Thank you for being active in our Project Ed Bear family, and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Gratefully,

Susan Summerville, Co-Founder

2018 in Review, a letter from our Founder

In 2018, together, we proved the power that happens when we work together for our kids, to just feel like kids—no matter the diagnosis.

Thank you for sharing in our commitment to comfort children struggling with cancer!

Because of your support, I wanted to take a moment and share with you a few of our top moments from the year!

You helped us provide:

  • 135 Valentines Day and 135 Easter baskets (filled with items like toys, stuffed animal and gift cards!) to children at Akron Children’s Hospital and Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital

  • 20 baskets and 50 Halloween bags filled with goodies

  • Over 100 Christmas stockings, 50 Christmas toys, as well as $100 Amazon gift cards for the older children

  • 20 Christmas Morning Family Baskets in Akron for every family in hospital on Christmas

  • The opportunity for 88 Project Ed Bear children to join us for Camp Ed Bear this summer

  • Over 100 end of treatment and birthday parties with cakes from West Side Bakery

  • 11 Liv Thru Art parties and outings that included a visit to The Cleveland Art Museum and Castle Noel

  • 12 college scholarships to Project Ed Bear kids

  • 6 family meals in the oncology ward at Akron Children’s Hospital for all kids and their families

  • Financial help with 8 local families

  • Books for our two Take Me Home Book Carts, with the help from our friends at the Stephen A. Comunale, Jr. Family Cancer Foundation

We welcomed more than 900 people (hopefully you!) to the Project Ed Bear family during our Twisted Tiffany event in April, the 24th Annual Project Ed Bear Gala in November and the annual Project Ed Bear Liv Thru Art Show at the Art Akron Museum that features the children’s art.

Project Ed Bear is, and will continue to be, a 100% volunteer run nonprofit organization. When you support our children, please know, you’re supporting the kindest and bravest souls we’ve ever met. Every dollar you donate makes a difference to our children, and we all so very grateful for you!

Thank you for being active in our Project Ed Bear family, and we look forward to seeing you again soon,

Twisted Tiffany 2019 Update

Hi, Project Ed Bear family,

Twisted Tiffany, our annual event dubbed the “ultimate ladies day” that funds our college scholarship program, is shifting a bit in 2019— and we need your help.

Project Ed Bear is led by its fearless and dedicated (full-time volunteer!) founder Susan. If you’ve had the privilege of meeting Susan, you know the light she brings to the Project Ed Bear children fighting cancer, as well as their families and our community of supporters.

A few weeks ago, Susan’s mom received a lung cancer diagnosis, and true to the family’s spirit, she’s braving the diagnosis and fighting hard. Since getting the news, Susan hasn’t missed a doctor’s appointment with her mom, all while maintaining this incredible Project Ed Bear community.

Wanting to ensure her Project Ed Bear children and her mother are taken care of, Twisted Tiffany is the ONLY event that is changing this year.

Instead of planning a large event, selling tickets, getting raffle items— we’re asking you to host your own small Project Ed Bear event with your own girlfriends— and help us raise the necessary funds for our college scholarship program.

Here’s how you can participate:

  • On the last weekend of April, Saturday, April 27 or Sunday, April 28, get a group of your closest friends together.

  • Have brunch or a tea-time themed lunch, and talk to them a bit about Project Ed Bear and the power that it brings to this community. Then, ask for a donation!

  • During your own girls time, please send photos to our team at Susan@ProjectEdBear.org or tag us on Facebook (@ProjectEdBear)!

  • Any photos we see, we will share on our page to celebrate you and your group.

Once you have your group together, please let us know. The college scholarship program is a vital part of our organization and has been helping since 2008 to provide childhood cancer patients, a college scholarship.

Any child who’s been treated at Akron Children’s Hospital Oncology Unity since the inception of Project Ed Bear is eligible for the scholarship as long as they have been accepted into an accredited school.

Thank you for all you do!

Love,

Kat Pestian, Project Ed Bear Advocate + Friend
